“Everyone Village Bottle Drop is quick and convenient. The employees are respectful and their service is satisfactory. They don’t go overboard or underboard and deal with what’s on hand.”
Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC)
The Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative (OBRC) is a collaborative response to Oregon’s Bottle Bill that was introduced in 1975 as an effort to reduce litter in Oregon public areas. After multiple updates, the Bottle Bill requires Oregonians to pay a 10 cent deposit on cans and bottles which later can be redeemed at designated redemption centers for a 10 cent reimbursement. In 2009 distributors joined forces to form OBRC, a nonprofit whose mission is “to ensure that no resource goes to waste by empowering people to redeem every container easily, efficiently, and effectively.”
OBRC operates Bottle Drop Redemption Centers across Oregon, each site includes Bottle Drop Machines and Bag Drop Off Stations. The Bottle Drop Machines process containers one by one, while bag drop off stations allow Bottle Drop account holders to drop off their cans and bottles in bulk and have their reimbursement money sent to their account. OBRC also partners with retail stores and other organizations to make Bottle Drop machines and bag drop stations available across communities. In 2022, 2.05B containers were returned to Bottle Drop which landed Oregon the highest container redemption rate in the nation.
Everyone Village is the State of Oregon’s only reverse vending machine alternative redemption site open to the public for recycling. This is an innovative partnership that seeks mutual good for our state’s environmental stewardship and the Villagers flourishing as they regain employment through their work as Recycling Specialists. The E1V Bottle Drop is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2-4pm at 3825 Janisse Street, Eugene OR 97402.
This program also supports the Village directly. Community members can bring their cans and bottles and drop them off as a donation to the Village.
