Shop Lead

Overview

The principal role of the Shop Lead is to oversee the village work-shop, facilities and equipment. While this is a “task-oriented” role, the Shop Lead always must place an emphasis on relationships, because that is the heart-beat of the village.

E1V has a strong and growing presence in the margins of the community. As such many people need love, support and help in many areas of their lives, i.e. physical, mental, emotional, relational and spiritual. This includes not only the people we serve, but also the people serving alongside us. Like every member of the staff team, the Shop Lead should engage people in a holistic way that helps to build authenticity and trust.

This is a new position in a new village, so the Shop Lead must be adaptable to changing circumstances and realities, and be willing to embrace new responsibilities as needed.

Priorities

While some specific responsibilities are spelled out later in this job description, the Shop Lead should tackle her/his duties with the following over-arching priorities in mind:

  • Congeniality – working with a wide variety of personalities / temperaments is challenging. Maintaining a respectful & welcoming disposition toward others, even under stress, is essential.
  • Timeliness – Many aspects of this job are deadline driven. The Shop Lead must be a good time-manager to ensure that critical deadlines are met.
  • Accuracy – Whether building a tiny-home, fixing a lawn-mower, scheduling volunteers, or entering information into the E1V database, an attention to detail is extremely important.
  • Judgment – This is a part-time role, so the Shop Lead often will be challenged to properly balance completing priorities. Exercising good judgment about what to do and when to do it, based on the available work hours, is crucial for success.

Essential Functions

  1. Plan and complete various small building projects for village. This will include, but is not limited to, microshelter units, small structures, minor site improvements
  2. Maintain and perform minor repairs on village facilities and equipment
  3. Operate and woodworking machinery and hand tools, other power equipment
  4. Follow quality and safety standards
  5. Maintain village equipment according to an established schedule
  6. Understand daily village repair and maintenance needs and establish a schedule
  7. The Shop Lead periodically may be requested to work additional paid hours in order to complete special projects.
  8. Enforce work policies and procedures

Duration / Compensation

Up to 20 hours per week at $20/hour. Paychecks are issued via direct deposit on the 15th and last day of each month. Eligible for PTO (paid time off) for sickness, holidays, and personal days. Covered under the EveryOne Church Workers’ Compensation policy.
